The Subotica Big Band is a band driven by passion and dedication, with a story that dates back to February 14, Valentine’s Day. It was then, in a cozy café in Subotica, that the idea was born and turned into a real, active ensemble. Thanks to the selfless and persistent work of our musicians, every performance is a true musical experience, the result of months of preparation.
The Big Band is one of the most iconic formations in jazz history. Its unique sound comes from the mesmerizing melodies of trumpets, saxophones, and trombones, complemented by a dynamic rhythm section. Our band follows this classic setup, whose roots go back to the early 20th century. During this period, jazz gained immense popularity across Europe, including Serbia. Through records and radio broadcasts brought by American soldiers, local youth were introduced to this new musical style and soon started playing and transcribing the tunes.
In major cities like Belgrade and Novi Sad, the first Big Band ensembles were quickly formed. Today, we continue this tradition, preserving the essence of jazz while enriching the genre with new colors and fresh energy.
